Are you passionate about spiritual care and end-of-life support? We are excited to be seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Board of Trustees as a Spiritual Specialist. This pivotal role will guide our spiritual strategy and help ensure we continue to provide exceptional care to our patients and their families. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the spiritual and holistic care we provide. You will be instrumental in shaping our strategy and ensuring our patients and their families receive compassionate, inclusive spiritual support.

Role Overview

  • As a Trustee and Spiritual Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring our charity fulfils its purpose for the public benefit.

  • You will help safeguard the good name and values of Dorothy House, ensuring effective administration and responsible management of resources.

  • Your strategic input will be crucial in guiding the organisation’s direction, setting policies, defining goals, and evaluating performance.

  • Additionally, you will assist in appointing and monitoring the Chief Executive’s performance.

Key Responsibilities

You will be instrumental in challenging and evolving our vision for spiritual care, promoting the understanding that death is part of life, and supporting community engagement. Collaborating closely with the Spiritual Support Lead and multi-faith leaders, you will enhance spiritual care for our patients and families of all faiths and none. You will champion the implementation and development of our spiritual strategy, utilising multi-faith contacts to support our mission.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking someone with:

  • Broad understanding of spirituality and experience with all faiths and none

  • Demonstrated experience in continuous learning and development

  • Strategic insight and ability to engage at an executive level

  • Proven experience in strategic development and implementation

  • Respect for alternative traditions and the ability to explore the meaning of life openly

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders. With excellent listening skills and awareness of unspoken needs

Time Commitment

The role requires in-person attendance at quarterly board meetings (3 hours) at Winsley House and participation in Strategy Away Days held off-site twice annually. You will also attend relevant board sub-committee meetings quarterly, which may be held virtually, and participate in ad-hoc meetings and wider engagement activities as needed.

Appointment Details

The term is for 3 years, renewable up to a maximum of 9 years (3 x 3-year terms). Closing date is 18 September 2024 with interviews to be held 30 September or 1 October 2024
