Imagine being able to go home knowing everything you have done and will be doing is having a positive impact on someone. You might never meet them or get to know them but you still get that satisfying feeling that makes you smile.
About us
Kiran Support Services is a specialist charity providing services for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, honour-based violence, and forced marriage from South Asian backgrounds for the last 35 years.
We have grown from1 refuge which supported 7 families to being able to open a further 2 refuges to provide support to a total of 16 families at any one time. In addition to this we provide in-house immigration advice and casework, and a specialist counselling service for women, young people and children in their own languages. We provide therapeutic support in 1-2-1 counselling, group therapy and children’s play therapy sessions. We support women living in the community with advocacy and resettlement support.
About the opportunity
We are seeking professional South Asian women to join our trustee's Board
You will need:
- A willingness to devote at least 5 hours a month to duties as a trustee this includes reading papers.
- Integrity and a commitment to the organisation, its objectives and values including a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- An appreciation and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
- Good, independent judgement.
- An ability to think creatively.
- Willingness to speak your mind, constructively.
- An ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrate a consultative, collegiate and supportive style.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Have previous governance experience (desirable)
- Trustees are appointed for 1 year with the extension for further 2 years to complete 1 term. Trustees can serve a maximum of 2 terms (6 years in total).
- This is a voluntary and unremunerated position; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
About you
We are looking for inspirational women with the following expertise:
- Housing needs of women fleeing domestic abuse
- Housing management experience
- Policies & procedures relating to the VAWG sector, and housing management
- Domestic abuse / VAWG (violence against women and girls)
- Issues affecting south Asian women and children
- Charity governance
- An understanding of the non-profit / charity sector
