Job Description

In the wake of a general election, and with the new government focused on understanding the complex set of challenges facing health and care, the need for nonpartisan, robust analysis and policy solutions feels stronger than ever. The Nuffield Trust will be seeking to ensure our research and insights remain front and centre for this next chapter in health and care, drawing on a broad range of ideas, skills and people to maintain and develop our influence.

Are you interested in becoming a trustee of the board at the Nuffield Trust at this critical time?

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual with strong investment expertise to join our Board of Trustees and become a member of our Finance Committee. As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity ensuring its sustainability and supporting our mission to enhance healthcare quality.

You will be required to meet the general responsibilities of Trustees, as outlined in the guidance from the Charity Commission: The Essential Trustee. In addition, as a member of the Finance Committee, you will hold additional responsibility for overseeing all financial and investment aspects of the charity.

We’d really like to meet you if you have:

  • Evidence of interest and appreciation of the provision of health and care and the contemporary health and care policy environment.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and apply the external policy environment to the vision and mission of the Nuffield Trust.
  • Innovative thinking with excellent communication skills to debate, challenge and influence the work of the Trust.
  • Evidence of influencing national health policy and/or practice.
  • Experience of working at board level and of governance.
  • A proven track record of success at a senior level within the financial sector, preferably in investment management.
  • Strong understanding of financial governance, regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Ability to provide strategic financial guidance and support informed decision-making.
  • A relevant accounting qualification (desirable).
  • Some experience within the not-for-profit sector (desirable).
