Job Description

Over the past 2 years we have expanded and are currently working with over 200 young people across the country. We support young people who want to get into the media industry through providing creative courses, coaching and mentoring.

We are looking for a Youth Engagement Worker to work alongside the Youth Engagement Manager in leading, inspiring and promoting the personal, educational, creative and social development of young people, helping them reach their full potential and enter into employment.

Ideal Candidate

You will need to have knowledge of the barriers that young people face and the skills to deliver solution focussed outcomes. You will have a passion and drive to join us in making a difference. You will have a proven track record of working in a Youth Work setting, and be able to work in an inclusive way.

This is an ideal role for someone who wants to gain further experience working with young people in a careers and coaching environment. We are looking for someone who has experience of supporting young people either as a coach, mentor or youth worker. We particularly welcome applications from people with experience in the media industry or creative industries and who would like to share their experiences and insights with our young people.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with young people, by using the art of conversation and encouraging participation and involvement in our alumni programme.
  • To develop 1-2-1 support recognising their different needs and starting points.
  • Inform management of any personal concerns relating to the sessions, as well as being able to identify the personal needs of young people.
  • Identify and refer young people, when targeted youth support is needed.
  • Articulate and record their personal progression via our software
  • Support young people to be employment ready through helping them to prepare CVs and cover letters as well as prepare for interviews.
  • Ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of young people is paramount.
  • Support the Iconic Steps team with monitoring and evaluation by keeping up to date records and evidence of meetings by using software like Views and Monday . com

Job requirements

  • Experience of working in a youth work setting with young people age 16 - 25.
  • Experience of working with a focus on supporting young people into education and employment.
  • Significant experience working directly with young people, particularly those who face challenges and barriers.
  • The ability to develop and motivate young people and support them with employability.
  • A very good understanding of safeguarding young people and how to put this in practice.
  • Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to use this knowledge in youth work practice.
  • Experience of having worked in the media industry (desirable)
