Job Description
We are looking for a Trustee to join the Board acting as Lead Safeguarding (Welfare & Safety) Trustee as we continue our development. This is a voluntary role with a time commitment of 2 – 3 days per month.
Every member of the Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) Board of Trustees (The Board) has a duty towards the welfare and safety of SOGB’s members and people (including but not limited to Athletes, employees and volunteers and any other people for whom it is responsible). The Board is committed to ensuring its responsibilities towards the welfare and safety of members and people are factored into the decisions it makes. The Lead Safeguarding (Welfare & Safety) Trustee is appointed to take a lead in the area of safeguarding, welfare, safety and health.
Working with The Board and staff team, the core duties and responsibilities of the Lead Safeguarding (Welfare & Safety) Trustee include:
· ensuring The Board has a clear oversight of all aspects of welfare and safety (including but not limited to, safeguarding (adults and children), mental health and wellbeing (including psychological safety), clean sport and integrity issues and an appropriate understanding of welfare and safety issues;
· checking and challenging The Board on decisions that affect welfare and safety across SOGB to ensure that welfare and safety is given appropriate consideration during decision making;
· enforcing the implementation of the procedures set out within the Safeguarding Children Policy Statement & Procedures and the Safeguarding Adults Policy Statement & Procedures;
· ensuring a clear approach to and procedure for responding to, reporting, recording and referring any allegations of misconduct or abuse is maintained and adhered to; and
· driving a positive and effective safeguarding and welfare culture across SOGB.
In addition, the Lead Safeguarding (Welfare & Safety) Trustee will have those responsibilities common to all Trustee positions.
